One of the biggest culprits for people who hit the struggle bus when on their health journey is eating out with their social circle! We get it, it’s TOUGH! You walk in hungry. The smell of food hits you like a brick wall. You are salivating like crazy. You think I’m just going to get the salad this time. All of a sudden everyone is ordering appetizers. You look at the menu and can’t stop thinking how good those fried mozzarella sticks look! Now you are thinking, I could just eat one and share the rest. Boom ordered. Then you see all the other food on the menu. Everything looks so good right now and you are HUNGRY. It’s ok if I ordered the flat bread pizza this one time. I can treat myself. So you do.
.
Appetizers get there, and you share yours but other people are sharing theirs too. So you end up having quite a few instead of the only one you wanted. Welp dinner comes, a few drinks later, and you are leaving. It;’s about 3,000 calories later and you don’t even know it.
.
This is a typical situation that most people run into. They think oh its just one time. Here is the deal. Most people will eat 2,500 to 3,000 calories in one meal out because restaurants over serve. They don’t really measure like they should and are focused on turn around time in meals.
.
So here is the simple fix. We need to address the biggest issue. When you go into a restaurant hungry it creates a situation that leads to over consumption. It’s like when they say, don’t go to a grocery store hungry. Same concept here. You won’t make great decisions when you do. Best option for most people will be drinking a protein shake 15 minutes before going to the restaurant. Having something in your belly will curb your appetite and allow you to make better choices.
.
Second option- Actually eat before you eat. No joke! Eat a salad with a serving of 3-6 oz of lean protein. Then when you get there, enjoy an appetizer and a drink. You will cut down on so many extra calories and still feel like you were able to enjoy the time out with friends and food!
